Arsenal transfer claim

Arsenal did not view Emi Buendia as a summer transfer priority, it has been claimed.

The Gunners were interested in signing the 24-year-old forward but he has now completed a move to Aston Villa.

Buendia has joined Villa from Norwich City for a club record fee of £33million, putting pen to paper on a five-year contract.

He is Villa’s first signing of the summer transfer window and boss Dean Smith is pleased to have got his man early in the window.

It is a statement of intent from Villa, who are aiming to build on an 11th-placed finish and push for European qualification next term.

Arsenal finished eighth, six points better off, and former Gunners striker Kevin Campbell believes his old club could have landed Buendia if they had really wanted to.
