Glenn Close clarifies that she ‘knew’ she would be quizzed about Da Butt for viral Oscars moment but insists the dance ‘was completely spontaneous’

She may have missed out on yet another golden statuette, but she certainly won over the crowd on Oscars night this weekend.

And Glenn Close shed further light on her now-viral moment from the Academy Awards on Sunday, in a lengthy caption alongside a photo from the evening on Instagram.

The Dangerous Liaisons star, 74, posed in her booth at the glitzy awards event alongside best friend, screenwriter Chris Terrio, as well as Darrell Britt-Gibson and Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner Daniel Kaluuya.

In the caption, she discussed the circumstances surrounding the moment when she was asked by Lil Rel Howery about the song Da Butt from the 1988 Spike Lee movie School Daze.

‘We had the MOST FUN at our table at the Oscars last night,’ Close began.

‘I knew that Lil Rel was going to quiz me about Da Butt and all three guys helped me run through what I was to say,’ she later added, confirming what many suspected.

‘Darrell insisted that I mention the Backyard Band, on top of E.U., Suga Bear and the whole DMV. I had googled “Da Butt” and watched Spike’s music video so when Lil Rel asked if I could do the dance…you can actually see me think of the video,’ the Fatal Attraction star continued. ‘That part was completely spontaneous.’

The dance itself saw the septuagenarian screen legend actually get up and shake her booty, to the delight of Twitter and beyond.

‘Daniel, Darrell and Chris egged me on!!!’ Glenn wrote Monday on Instagram.

‘It was ALL their fault. CONGRATULATIONS DANIEL on your BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR Oscar. You are completely brilliant. I now consider both Daniel and Darrell to be friends-for-life!’

Glenn was nominated for her EIGHTH Oscar on Sunday, for her performance in Netflix’s Hillbilly Elegy opposite Amy Adams.

The talented actress lost, however, this time to Minari’s Yuh-Jung Youn.

Perhaps one of her hotly anticipated upcoming film projects – a remake of Sunset Boulevard – will finally be the film to help score her Oscar gold.

She has portrayed the star character of that musical, Norma Desmond, twice on Broadway.

And in 1995, she won the Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a Musical for the show.

But it was still all about Glenn’s dance moves on Sunday night.

The actress twerked on live television to funk 80’s hit Da Butt to the delight of the select A-listers in attendance during the segment about Oscar-nominated songs.

The veteran star was dressed in sparkling blue Armani with gloves.

And she astounded everyone with her impressive gyrating moves.
