Jurgen Klopp has opened up over his conversation with Fabinho that saw the Brazilian admit he wants to play a different position.

Liverpool put their domestic woes behind them with a professional win over RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane were on the scoresheet – an almost carbon copy of their display in the second leg.

Both matches saw the Reds come out on top in 2-0 wins as Liverpool reached the quarter-finals of the competition.

It also put a halt to their losing streak, which includes an unprecedented six defeats at Anfield in a row.

And though this was technically the home match of the tie, Merseyside was over 1,000 miles away with this clash going ahead at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary.

Nevertheless, Liverpool put on a fine display which saw the forwards firing and their defence strong, with Nat Phillips and Ozan Kabak at the back.

There was also a chance to see Fabinho back in his more familiar role in midfield, a position he has longer for since the injury to Virgil van Dijk.

The defensive crisis at Liverpool saw the former Monaco man deployed as a centre-back, a role he has performed admirably in since.

But given the choice, the Brazilian would pick his midfield position every time.

And Klopp admitted so after revealing all on a conversation he had in the tunnel with the 27-year-old.

He said: “I told him on the way downstairs you like the position six more then? He said yeah. You couldn’t show it more clear!

“We all want Fab on the six. Tonight he played there and the two centre-halves played an incredible game, to be honest.

“The whole last line played a really good game. We had to press them. We defended deep really well, not only in Champions League but especially. Everybody had a really good game.

“The three in midfield worked really well together. Three up front. Diogo as long as he could. It was a sensible decision to not let play him 90.

“The boys who came on, Naby especially was good, Milly was good.”
