Liverpool need to make ‘immoral offer’ for Neuhaus

Florian Neuhaus has emerged as a potential replacement for Gini Wijnaldum in Liverpool’s midfield but the Reds have been warned they’ll have to splash the cash if they want to land the Borussia Monchengladbach man.

Sport Witness cites Bild as claiming that the reigning Premier League champions face competition from Bayern Munich for the 24-year-old.

Their article states:

The Germany international’s current deal runs down in 2024 and the report explains the midfielder sees his future with Gladbach, at least until the end of the next season.

According to Bild, the only way a sale could be considered in the summer is if the Bundesliga side receive an ‘immoral offer’ well beyond Neuhaus’ €40m release clause.

“We are in contact with all players. Yes, players will leave us after this season. But nobody has to worry that we won’t have a very competitive team again,” Borussia Mönchengladbach director of sports Max Eberl said.

I’m not sure why any potential suitors would have to submit bids well beyond a release clause though or what’s the point in having one?

Shades of Luis Suarez, John Henry and “What do you think they’re smoking over there at Emirates?” here.
