United have lost four semi-finals with Solskjaer in the dugout, and while the Red Devils sit second in the Premier League and near-certainties to qualify for next season’s Champions League, the pressure is on to lift silverware.

United have not won a trophy since 2017, when Jose Mourinho led them to glory in this very competition. For all the good work Solskjaer has done at Old Trafford, lifting the Europa League would vindicate his approach.

Solskjaer insists he meant no offence, but Roma boss Paulo Fonseco will surely do what all clever coaches would and look to channel that motivation into a performance at Old Trafford.

Half-time | Man Utd 1-2 Roma

A half that started so well for United ends with Roma leading, with two away goals in their back pocket.

Solskjaer’s semi-final hoodoo will continue unless he can change things up here…

Cavani has had a good season at United, but you have to say, those sort of moments were why he was brought in – and he’s fluffed his lines there.

Miss by Cavani!

United capitalise on an awful Roma pass across goal and Cavani is put through, but his first touch is poor and he blasts at sub keeper Mirante!

Fred shows neat footwork and finds Rashford, but he dallies and is forced backwards.

Given three injuries to Roma and the penalty delay, it’s no surprise to see five minutes of injury time added on.

43 mins: United look like they’re just trying to get to half-time for a regroup now.

After starting so well and seeing Roma lose three players to injury, the Red Devils find themselves 2-1 down after some dismal defending.

Fred tries to keep the ball in play after a United attack falls apart, but screams as he slides it out of play. Frustration for the midfielder.

40 mins: Rashford never looks comfortable out on the right, and has been quiet again tonight.

Solskjaer may need to change things up at the interval.

There were problems all over for United defensively for that goal. Lindelof doesn’t clear the danger.

He’s then out of position when Mkhitaryan plays the plays the ball into space.

Shaw and Maguire don’t communicate when trying to step up for offside and then Dzeko is given two bites at getting the ball over the line.

Fortunately for Roma, they can make two more subs tonight – but Paulo Fonseca will be hoping for some better luck in that regard.

As for United, if they can’t make Roma pay with three key players injured in the first half, then that is worrying.
