GOAL! Porto 2-0 Juventus (Marega 46)
Hells bells! That is ridiculous – another great start for Porto, as Moussa Marega slots the ball into the corner after 20 seconds of the second half.
Second half: Porto 1-0 Juventus
46 min: Play redsumes with no changes in personnel on either side. I am surprised that Alvaro Morata hasn’t been sent out to bat by Pirlo, as Dejan Kusulevski has hardly had a kick.
Half-time: FC Porto 1-0 Juventus
Peep! That’s your lot for the first half, which got off to the worst possible start for Juventus when Mehdi Taremi pounced on a Rodrigo Bentancur error to nick an opportunist goal. Juve have been surprisingly sluggish and already look genuinely berfeft of ideas. I suspect we’ll see a change or two from Andrea Pirlo before too long. It’s been so comfortable for Porto, whose defence has looked remarkably assured.
45+1 min: Ronaldo tries to run into the Porto penalty area from the left but is crowded off the ball.
45 min: Ronaldo wins his team a corner after one such excursion. Bentancur’s delivery is headed clear, despite Ronaldo’s best efforts to get to the ball.
44 min: We’re almost at the break and Cristiano Ronaldo has had just one touch in the Porto penalty area. He’s getting frustrated too, dropping deeper and deeper in a bid to get more time on the ball.
41 min: Another free-kick, from the same area. The ball is sent towards the far post again and breaks to Adrien Rabiot, whose overhead kick is saved by Marchesin, who bats it clear. It was a spectacular looking effort but lacked real venom. It was also Juve’s first shot on target.
40 min: Juve free-kick, wide on the right after a Sergio Oliveira foul on Matthijs De Ligt. Bentancur finally gets one right and picks out Cristiano Ronaldo at the far post. His downwards header doesn’t trouble Marchesin.
39 min: Juve corner. The ball’s sent into the Porto penalty area, where Agustin Marchesin punches clear.
36 min: Not for the first, second or third time in this half, Juve try to pick out Cristiano Ronaldo with a long diagonal pass lofted towards the corner. Porto clear, again … and one suspects their excellent defenders continue to clear those kind of deliveries all night.
34 min: Juventus substitution: Giorgio Chiellini off, Merih Demiral on. I have no idea what’s wrong with Chiellini, who didn’t appear to be struggling with any obvious injury. Alex Sandro takes the captain’s armband.
32 min: Porto have 11 men behind the ball as Juve try to find a way through. The Italian side will have their work cut out – this is defence is incredibly disciplined.
29 min: Juve play a ball from deep towards Ronaldo, but he’s beaten in the air on the edge of the Porto box.
28 min: Zaido Sanusi gallops down the left touchline and is shoved off the ball by Bentancur. This time he doesn’t get a free-kick and harangues the referee at great length. Karma, as they say, is a bitch.
26 min: Pepe steps in to welly the ball clear after a Juventus attack featuring Cristiano Ronaldo and Tyler McKinnie runs into a blue and white wall of resistance on the edge of the Porto penalty area.
25 min: The camera cuts to Andrea Pirlo, standing in his technical area. The poker face is gone – he looks genuinely concerned and I don’t blame him. His Juventus team has been dismal in the opening 25 minutes.
22 min: A diabolical clearance from Szczesny flies straight to Sergio Oliveira, about 30 yards from the Juve goal. He sends the ball back with interest, his goalbound shot taking a crucial deflection off Matthia De Ligt. Nothing comes from the ensuing corner. Juve are really struggling in the face of Porto’s high press.
20 min: From undercooking passes to overcooking them – Rodrigo Bentancur tries to pick out Cristiano Ronaldo with a crossfield pass to the touchline, but sends the ball into the stand. The Uruguayan needs to get his cross-hairs aligned.

18 min: Zaido Sanussi wins a free-kick after falling over and screaming loudly near the touchline, with Danilo nearby. The Juve right-back proclaims his innocence with no little justification, laughing at the referee for falling for Sanusi’s grift.
15 min: Alex Sandro canters down the left wing before sending an outswinger of a cross to the far post. Federico Chiesa makes good contact on the volley but his effort is put out for a corner. Moments after that’s taken short(ish), Juve are flagged for offside as the ball is sent into the Porto penalty area.
13 min: Porto win a free-kick, wide on the left, halfway inside the Juve half. They win themselves a corner, which Sergio Oliveira takes short. The ball is then played crossfield to Chancel Mbemba, whose awful first touch puts the ball out of play for a Juve throw-in. It’s like watching two pub teams!
11 min: The slapstick continues as Juve players Adrien Rabiot and Dejan Kulusevski collide with each other, the young striker coming off worse. Any minute now we can expect to see a couple of members of the Juve backroom team walking across the pitch at carrying an extremely large pane of glass.
9 min: Juventus’s players still look a little shell-shocked after that very early setback. They’re playing at an extremely pedestrian pace and Cristiano Ronaldo has barely had a touch of the ball yet.
5 min: On the touchline, Juve boss Andrea Pirlo is wearing his best poker face, but he must be furious with his Uruguayan midfielder. Quite what he was doing on the edge of the six yard box when Szczesny was in possession is anyone’s guess, but his woeful pass back to the goalkeeper immediately after receiving the ball from him will have infuriated his manager.
2 min: That is an absolute shocker from Juve. Their goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczesney passed the ball about five yards to Rodrigo Bentancur on the edge of the penalty area, who promptly passed it back. He completely undercooked his delivery, however, allowing Taremi to steal in and contest the fifty-fifty ball, block the keeper’s attempted clearance and send it into the back of net.
